I remember back in elementary school days when your mom would buy me new school clothes. That was always a joyous time for me because there is nothing better than showing up in the school yard with a fresh crease running down the front of your pants. Ah, the wonderful memories of new pants. Unfortunately for me, I was really short and a lot of my pants were too long for my short legs so all of my fresh creases were met at the bottom of my pants with a hideous, bulky cuff. Yes, my friends I was that girl whose mother cuffed her pants so I did not have to drag the back of my pant legs on the ground. While pant cuffs were done out of necessity then, I’ve found that when done correctly it adds the illusion of lengthy legs and gives any basic outfit a super chic boost.
Now I know this may come off as a shock or just plain weird to some but let me explain. Some beauty and fashion tips are based on visual illusions such as highlighting and contouring for more face definition or wearing black for a slimmer looking body. In fashion terms this means if your eyes are going to play tricks on you, make it work in your your favor. The most important tip is to make sure your cuffs aren’t too big. Too large of a cuff will make your legs look short and stubby and in the words of Sweet Brown,"ain't nobody got time for that"!
Start off with pants that just meet the top of your foot, (it will not work with excessively long or wide pant legs) grab the hem of you pants and being to roll the fabric about the length of an inch for each flip. If you notice your cuff getting too bulky, unroll your last two cuffs (until it is to your desired thickness) and gently pull up the pant leg up toward your knee for a slight “scrunchy” effect. Also, the cuffs don’t have to be too neat; try a messy roll for a boho, comfy look.
