Sprite was introduced to the world, Kennedy was president, the Vietnam War began, John Lennon and Yoko Ono were married, and Woodstock was birthed. Are you wondering what these events have in common? They all took place in the 60’s and to our benefit, the 60’s are coming back to grace us with its presence in fashion once again.
Fashion has always been on a full circle cycle, so when I saw H&M’s newest trend collection, I was pleasantly reminded of my parent’s old middle school photos. I am genuinely excited for the 60’s making a sophisticated comeback with fashion these days. Was I surprised to see 60's in fashion resurface? Not at all because the 60's were full of vibrantcy, style, and on a personal level, I always meditate on this one Bible verse that says:
And I apply that verse to my daily life, which means there are very few things that come as a shock to me especially in fashion.
One rule of thumb I have when it comes to fashion is: don't throw away fashionable statement pieces because what may have fizzled out can make an amazing comeback within a few years. Which reminds me of a time I was helping my great grandmother move a few clothes out of her apartment because she wanted to free up some space. I ended up coming across this pumpkin orange, floor length leather jacket that had white fur trimming around the collar. Talk about stunning! Well, after convincing her that she wasn't going to wear it, she reluctantly let me have it under the strict condition that if she decided one day that she wanted to wear it, she could. (*Sigh*, my great grandma was the funniest) Needless to say, she totally forgot she gave it to me which is a result of her forgetting that she even had it. Now that I have this vintage beauty, I have to find a tailor that can resize it for me because I'm a lot shorter than Grandma Eddie.
H&M x The 60's:
Leather skirts, denim overalls, and floral prints scream 60’s chic to me. I love how the style of dress was so carefree and flowy but structured with lines and shapes. Fashion in the 60’s was all about being an individual and dressing in the way that made you most happy but it still had uniformity in how everyone always gave off one of two styles: bohemian or mod. Since those styles are blowing their way back around, I’m here for it.
H&M sends me little email updates when their items go on sale or when they get new items in the inventory. If you’re a fan of H&M then I think you should sign up too. When I opened my email today and saw what was being offered, it jumped out at me and I had to share the awesomeness with you guys too!
So what do you think? Leave a comment below if you're looking forward to the 60’s resurfacing to mainstream fashion or if you aren't.
