I've always had a love/hate relationship with my 4b/4c type hair. I love my deep color and coils but my hair always seems to be thirsty. No matter how many deep conditioners from the store I purchase, none seem to give me that soft, luscious texture I've always envisioned for my hair to have. So, I've decided to try the refrigerator method. What is this method you ask? The refrigerator method is a deep conditioner created from food items that can be found in your fridge. That's right! No extra trips to the grocery store. No super expensive ingredients, just normal stuff you should already have in your house. The awesome part is that this concoction can be used for any hair type. Now let's get started!
So as you can see in the above picture, I kept it SUPER simple. Now, I'll list why I've chosen the above ingredients.
Mayo: Mayo contains L-cysteine, an amino acid and powerful antioxidant found in eggs that can give your hair strength, shine and structure. Increases hair shaft and hair growth density. It also contains oil which provides moisture to your dry strands.
Eggs: Eggs pack protein that strengthens hair follicles. It helps to rebuild damaged hair by filling in weakened spots along the hair strand, which temporarily strengthens the hair.
Honey: It's a natural softener which means it smoothens your hair strands, stimulates hair growth, prevents the loss of moisture from your scalp and helps to retain moisture, and adds shine.
Feel free to add essential oils with hair positive properties but these three ingredients should be the base of any "refrigerator" deep conditioners.
Now, my natural hair is about shoulder length so i didn't need much product. If you hair is longer or thicker than mine, feel free to double or triple the amount I list.
Add honey, egg, and mayo into a bowl and mix well until smooth (you don't want to see any egg whites or mayo clumps). Once mixed, divide hair into sections and saturate hair with mixture. Take your time adding the mixture to each section and comb through. Once hair is saturated and detangled, pull hair up off of your neck with hair clip. Now you want to add your plastic cap over your hair. If you do not have a plastic cap, use a plastic bag (it works just as well). Keep a clean towel around you neck. As your body heats up the mixture, it will drip down your forehead and neck. Use the towel to wipe those annoying droplets. Let sit for 15-30 minutes. Wash and blowdry your hair as normal.
After I washed the mixture out of my hair, I noticed an immediate difference! My hair was more shiner and softer than usual. Oh happy day! ** Note: You want to be careful with protein treatments because too many treatments of protein can damage and dry out your hair. I recommend once a month or once every other month.**
If you decide to try this deep conditioning treatment, leave a comment below and let me know how it worked for you!
