Your favorite celebrities in smokin' outfits that fit the theme "Manus x Machina". Find out who made my top 10....
The Met Gala is put on by the Metropolitan Museum of Art who just released their 2016 Costume Institute exhibition, Manus x Machina. If you're interested in what this exhibition is all about, check out the blurb below from the Met Museum's website::
With more than 150 ensembles dating from the early 20th century to the present, the exhibition will address the founding of the haute couture in the 19th century, when the sewing machine was invented, and the emergence of a distinction between the hand (manus) and the machine (machina) at the onset of mass production. It will explore this ongoing dichotomy, in which hand and machine are presented as discordant tools in the creative process, and question the relationship and distinction between haute couture and ready-to-wear.
Ok, I don't mean to bore you with the informative stuff, let's get into my favorites of the evening! Now before we dive in, I did rate the looks based off of how well they aligned with the theme of the Gala, Manus x Machina, which means hand vs machine. I'm looking to see who didn't take the word "machine" too literally and/or those who wore stunning hand made designs.
10. Jordan Dunn
I loved the shape of the Balmain gown and how sleek it is. I'm always a fan of turtlenecks on fitted dresses, I just think the style is super stylish and sassy BUT it was a little too literal for me.
9. Blake Lively
What a whimsical Burberry gown! I love the hand detailing that's included on the dress. How can you deny this beauty?!
8. Claire Danes
Um..hello? This Zac Posen gown brought Cinderella realness to the Gala! This is 19th century "manus" work at it's finest!
7. Jemima Kirke
Jemima Kirke chose correctly when she decided to rock this vintage styled Chanel gown. You can't tell me she doesn't look like an elegant flapper girl.
6. Lupita Nyong'o
Calvin Klein was the perfect choice for this actress with the poppin' melanin. Klein is definitely the epitome of "machine" when we think of his millions of clothing items that are mass produced each year. This dress is a total show stopper and Nyong'o looks stunning.
5. Katy Perry
The detail of this Prada dress is what landed Perry at number 5. I mean...just look at it! It's beautiful!
4. Kate Bosworth
Detail, details, and more details! Dolce & Gabbana got it right with the hand detailed work of art.
While I was not looking for "futuristic" looks, I couldn't ignore that Beyonce's dress is made of a latex material and the smaller beaded details elevates the glam factor. I bet she's feeling reckless in this Givenchy dress.
2. Bella Hadid
This dress reminds me of those old 1950s black and white movies that my mom and I would watch together. You know, the ones when the actresses would sing and ballroom dance in full, fluffy, and elegant dresses? Well, I remember and this dress is a modernized replica I love this dress!.
1. Alessandra Ambrosio
*Gags* This dress is THEE perfect combination of machina meets manus! The crochet detail is phenomenal and the metal belt was so edgy! I thought this Balmain piece stole the show!
What did you think about the Met Gala this years? Who wore your favorite styles?
