Since Philly has gotten its first snow of the season, I thought now would be the most appropriate time to address the dry skin apocalypse that we’ve all been dreading. Sorry, this is unavoidable. Even those of us with oily skin will experience an unnatural tightness to our skin as our natural oils are stripped from our pores. If you're looking for a few skin care staples, you've come to the right place.
While the snow queen blasts us with cold and freezing winds, that isn’t the only thing to blame for your dry winter skin. Our winter hats, gloves, and scarves are also to blame. Most of these items that we use are made out of cotton. Cotton is a material that is used vastly in apparel design due to its low cost and soft feel but cotton also absorbs moisture. Placing cotton hats on your head will absorb your hair and forehead’s natural oils just as wrapping scarves around your face will strip your face of oils too. Everyone naturally produces a small amount of oily to keep our skin moisturized (although some people do produce an excess amount which causes acne). The winter season, our winter attire, and our daily face washing is a triple threat that beckons for our skin to become excessively dry. When your skin loses that moisture, it will either (1) go into oil production overdrive and overproduce oils which can also lead to breakouts or (2) it will continue to dry out and cause itchiness and inflammation. I don’t know about you but I want no parts of either one! Below I’ve listed my top 4 favorite moisturizers I use during the winter that I’ve absolutely loved can be worn on a bare face or applied before your favorite makeup primer.

This moisture rich formula is definitely a skin care staple because it is so great especially for those of us with acne prone skin. After washing your face, apply this cream for an instant moisture boost. What makes this product even greater is that its dermatologist tested, allergy tested, and fragrance free so it’s perfect for those with sensitive skin.

I am so in love with Aveeno skin care products. I like how after I use this product, I feel no oily residue and it doesn’t feel like this product is just sitting on my face. It absorbs quickly into my skin after I apply it.
This intense moisture cream helps prevent moisture loss and helps repair extra-dry skin. The unique formula combines ACTIVE NATURALS® Triple Oat Complex, ceramide and rich emollients to help restore and maintain skin’s moisture barrier. It’s also fragrance free and noncomedogenic.
This is literally my absolute favorite moisturizer right now. I keep this in my bag at all times. Although I’m not covered in eczema, I do sometimes get it on my face and this eases my discomfort every single time. It’s never greasy or too heavy for my skin. It moisturizes without making me feel shiny afterwards! Definitely one of my staples!
Developed with leading dermatologists, this breakthrough cream helps relieve irritated skin, intensely moisturizes and helps prevent the recurrence of extra-dry skin. It’s enriched with a ceramide, an essential lipid, naturally found within the skin that play a key role in enhancing and restoring the skin’s protective function. Clinically shown to help reduce the itching and irritation of eczema. Plus, it's dermatologist tested, and gentle enough for babies and children.
This is a natural remedy and is great for anyone with extremely dry skin and looking for a low cost moisturizer. Take one capsule and poke a small hole in it with a safety pin. Squeeze the vitamin e oil straight from the capsule on your face and rub it. Thank me later.
