It's never fun to lose a loved one or in this case; a beloved personality. While I didn't know Bourdain personally, my family and I have always loved and respected his work for years. His sarcastic and witty conversations always kept smiles on our faces and chuckles in our belly. This morning it was confirmed that one of the world's greatest culinary story-tellers has committed suicide at the age of 61.
"Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series, "Parts Unknown." His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning."
This devastating news is also a crucial reminder that "success" is not determined by the amount of money you make. Success is not determined by how influential you are. Success (to me) is achieving the highest form of genuine happiness with simple personal experiences. There is no exact formula to follow in order to be happy because everyone is different. My husband finds happiness in long on long scenic drives, I find happiness in going to local coffee shops and writing. Everyone's "happy places" are different but they should always be simple.
I want to challenge everyone who reads this post to really search their heart and soul and create a list of things that make you happy. Once your list is complete:
