We all have days where life just feels dim and gray. No matter how hard you try, things just never seem to brighten up. The easiest and most natural way that we tend to deal with these moments is to let them take over, while some of us rely on vices to help get us through. The common demnominator for the both of these is that they don't help you out in the long run. Allowing emotions "to take their course" puts a strain on your body due to the additional stress it adds. Vices, on the other hand, are never a healthy way to cope with any type of pain because the activities normally involve substances or actions that go against social norms that will leave greater damage to your physical, mental, and/or emotional state. My goal is to help you to find healthier ways to deal with these moments that seem unbearable. As one who use to battle depression consistently (I still struggle, just not as often), I've taken time to successfully overcome dark moments without the aid of medication**. I've learned to do this by taking note of the things (movies, videos, activities , etc.) that put me in an amazing mood when I'm not feeling my best. As one who has used food, self-harm, and alcohol as methods to cope with dark times, these different outlets have helped me so much. For example, watching "Try Not To Laugh" challenges on YouTube is always a successful way to help me crack a smile even during my most difficult moments. Other times, travel vlogs, romantic comedy movies, or anime shows are my go-to method. Each of these things allow me to get my mind off of what's happening and I can get lost in another world for a bit of time. Here are a few of my favorite pick-me-ups during rough moments. Side note: This list is not in any particular order, they all make me feel so great. **The method that I've used to help me manage my depression is not meant to be used to diagnose, treat, or cure depression. If you or someone you know deals with depression, make sure you seek medical attention for a professional opinion.
